We can use a bridge to address the issue of a missing tooth or teeth. Designed to fill in the gap left by a missing tooth or teeth, conventional bridges are made up of a prosthetic tooth or teeth, and a crown on either side. These crowns then hold the prosthetic tooth or teeth in place, with the natural teeth acting as an ‘anchor’.
We might recommend a bridge as a way to replace a missing or soon to be extracted tooth or teeth. At Manor Lodge Dental Practice, we feel very strongly about the need to replace missing or extracted teeth wherever possible. This is because missing teeth can lead to further oral health issues in the future, as well as more invasive intervention in some cases. Missing teeth can also cause issues with speaking and eating and can lead to a patient feeling unhappy or self-conscious about their smile.
Yes, here at Manor Lodge Dental Practice, we can also offer Sticky or Maryland bridges, alongside the more conventional bridge described above.
These bridge types are held in place via a frame that is then attached to the back of the neighbouring teeth. Because we don’t have to apply a crown to either of the anchor teeth, this is a less invasive option that doesn’t require any drilling. However, they can come loose and might not present as natural-looking or as long-lasting an option as conventional bridges.
As with all our treatments here, we’ll always take the time to talk through all your options with you, making sure you’re making the decision that’s most suitable for you and your oral health.
